Oct. 1 Night Market in Blair’s Art Alley

Art Alley has held several events this year, but none more impressive than the Oct. 1 Night Market. The crowd was steady, vendor booths appeared busy, and the return of Kate Honeysuckle’s Nomadic Novels was well received.
“October 1st was our one year anniversary of the night markets in Blair,” organizer Janelle Taylor said. “It was one year of celebrating the community space created by the Washington Public Arts Committee, along with the support from many other local organizations.”
Taylor organized the market with Angie Schroder. “We volunteer countless hours leading up to the event. We like to make sure it is a curated market with local Washington county vendors,” Taylor said. “It was a well attended event, with the food truck selling out and the vendors happy as well.”
“We added live music by a local youth garage band (Dead Branches) that was well liked,” she said. “Our community is excited we now have something different in Blair in a beautiful space.”
The most striking difference from earlier events was the number of young people. At least half the crowd appeared to be under 30 — the kind of turnout Blair needs more often. Taylor, Schroder and everyone at the Washington County Public Arts Committee should be proud.
“We are always blown away at the community support at our markets. Keep it up Blair!” Taylor said.
“The Public Arts Committee is already working on the Christmas Market, November 19th which is lined up with Blairs Tannenbaum and tree lighting celebration,” she said. “We already have some great vendors that have signed up and can’t wait to celebrate with our community!”
