On Friday, September 25, The Arlington Eagles captured their first victory of the season on Friday night, leaning on a dominant air attack and a stifling defense to edge past Wayne High School 21-15 at Wayne State College’s field.
Arlington wasted no time establishing a rhythm, striking early with seven points in the first quarter. The Eagles expanded their lead in the second quarter when quarterback Jack Morgan led the offense downfield, capping the drive with a crucial two-point conversion to put Arlington up 15-6 going into halftime.
Wayne threatened to come back after the break, but the Eagles sealed the victory with a six-point fourth quarter to hold off the host Blue Devils.
Karsen Foust led the team’s defensive effort, racking up a team-high tackle total to disrupt Wayne’s offensive rhythm.
Statistically, the Eagles controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Arlington outgained Wayne 273 to 163 in total yards. The defensive unit held Wayne’s ground game to under 100 yards, while Arlington’s own rushing attack, spearheaded by Burke Quinn, ground out 113 yards to keep the clock moving.
Morgan anchored the passing game, throwing for 160 yards compared to Wayne’s 53. His favorite target of the night was Owen Ladehoff, who served as Arlington’s primary weapon through the air, highlighting his performance with an 11-yard touchdown reception from Morgan.
